Default Re: Override system seems complicated

....one final note....after my last post, I was checking the Wiki, and
    found this page

    http://www.zen-cart.com/wiki/index.php/Troubleshoot_-_Templates

If I had done that earlier, I wouldn't have needed to ask!

But now I can refer other newbies to it who are scratching their heads
wondering about how the overrides system works.

I did use the search to find the threads about the overrides system, but
the Wiki had the specific info I needed all along.....just didn't think to look!

Now I'm saving all the Wiki pages that I need locally for quick access.

Thanks for all the great help!

To paraphrase: "The name of the named name is named as the name of the name of the named file"

I’m English, I can understand the words individually but this description for too wordy and confusing for me to understand.

Is this it how the system works … ?

My admin panel (tools/template selection) tells me that a “classic” template in use and goes on to describe that as a “classic green template”. That's the default 'look' that my installation came with. I guess this seems to tally with all those 'classic' folders that are seen scattered about the file hierarchy. Those being the files that comprise the ‘Classic Green Template’ and if I were to switch off that template through the admin then none of those files would be utilised?

The contents of those ‘classic’ folders therefore determine the files that can be optionally overridden. So should I take one of those files and put it my own, adjacent, folder called “MyTemplate” and make the appropriate changes to the “template_info.php” file then I will be able to utilise my “MyTemplate” additions from the admin panel and thereby use the overridden file. However in doing so I would have to be aware that non of the contents of the ‘classic’ folder would be utilised anywhere else?

    Have I got this right?

    Correct

Not precisely. Any file that exists in the same directory as that classic folder can be copied into the classic folder (and therefore your own template folder)

    Correct
