    Install to HTTPS or HTTP

    Hi gang,
This is my first post as a brand new zenner. So first off I'd like to say thank you to everyone who is responsible for creating Zen Cart. I'm looking forward to using it.

Over the last week I have probably installed Zen about a dozen times and I'm starting to pull at my hair.... not good when I'm already losing it.

My problem is that my websapce has a http and a https directory. I have read every piece of informatoin here in the forum and in wiki etc. regarding the problems with a seperate https directory where I get the aparently usual problem. i.e. I can access the shop on the http server but can't access the admin area on https.

I install to http, set all my permissions and then copy the complete fileset to the https directory. In this case, (I use plesk by the way), all file permission changes I made are lost so I go through and set them again, but am still unable to access admin.

I'm jsut about to delete all the files and start again by uploading everything into and installing into.... the https directory.

My question is.............. Is this a solution?

    Thanks again boys and girls

Re: Install to HTTPS or HTTP

    Well its me again........

That didn't work. I installed into the https root opened the browser and it will only load the default index.html file. If I browse to the zc_install folder it just reports... file not found!!!!!!!!

Feel like throwing in the towel.

If you cannot run index.php files automatically without physically typing in the name in the URL ... you had best speak to your hosting site and ask that they setup your server correctly ...

You could "try" adding this to a .htaccess file in your webroot:

    Code:
    DirectoryIndex index.php default.php index.shtml index.html index.htm
You should still talk to your host about why it's configured differently, as it could be an indicator of other looming problems with PHP on that server. Beware moving forward with PHP scripts on this host until you have talked with them. Check out their support level ... what will they do if you have PHP problems later?

    Hi there,
Yes I figured it out... well at least for my situation. My host access is through a PLESK control panel. The solution was easy. In my plesk control panel for the domain I am working on, I went to..... 'setup' and then chose... 'Use a single directory for housing SSL and non-SSL content', and I also turned on 'SSL'. Then I just uploaded as normal to my public directory and BINGO......... instant access to admin. The result of my new shop can be seen at www.hysteria-fetish.com. Critical comments are more than welcome.

By the way once I got access to the admin area, it only took me a couple of days, (maybe 6 hours total), to achieve what you see............. ZEN is fantastic.

I am now a confirmed ZENNER and love it.
