    help question Sending out an SOS.....

    Hi... I really need some help with my site. Please forgive me if this question's been asked before.

    I am trying to set up a site selling doors. I need to set the site up such that the customer's order is processed in 3 steps:
    1. Customer chooses door style - preferably a checkbox allowing him/her to select the door style;
    2. Customer chooses door colour - again checkbox would be nice
    3. Customer chooses door sizes.

    I know it can be done, but I don't know how to do it. Boo hoo!! I've wracked my brain trying to figure it out but to no avail. Somebody please help before I turn completely grey!!!

    Umm, what about just organizing your doors into product categories? Each door style/color/size is a different product, and your customers navigate the product categories down tot he one they want. The logic would look like this...

    Style
    -> Color
    -> Size
    InkSale is an excellent example of this setup (and a great place to buy well-priced printer ink ).

    Attributes also offer a solution. Choose one value to be the primary one that defines the product (ex. each Zen cart product is a different style). Then, set the other two options as attributes (ex. color and size as dropdowns).

    It sounds like you may be overthinking your problem. Zen cart can easily handle your setup. Be brave and experiment!

    Blindside

    Thanks for responding so quickly. If I understand what you're saying. then this would work if the customer wants to order only one door. I'd like them to be able to order several doors of different sizes but same style and colour!!!

    How would I do that??

    There's this nifty feature called "quantity," where the custom can add more than one door at a time?

    Another cool one is the "shopping cart," where the customer can purchase multiple doors at one time...even if they're different!

    Sorry, I couldn't resist.

    Again, you're overthinking. Start by creating the products, it'll become clear as you play around. I also heartily recommend a visit to the FAQ, specifically the "Products and Attributes" section. Here's a direct link.

    Go there. Now.

    OK point taken .... I'll give it a go and stop thinking about it too much. Guess I need to stand back and look at things from a different perspective....

    Thanks for your help BlindSide
