Same product in multiple categories?

Hi,

I am setting up a fine-art greeting card site. It's easy to put any card in any one category. But many of my cards are quite suitable for several categories.

Given categories: landscape, marine, sympathy, etc.

A card may be a marine landscape and be unsuitable for a sympathy message. Another card may be a landscape and suitable for sympathy use. And so on.

Duplicating the cards would not be a good idea. I have at least 15 categories, and all of my 225 or so cards are suitable for at least 3 and usually for 5 or 6 categories. I don't even want to think about the permutations and combinations of that!

Any ideas on how I can set this up?

(In database terms, I need a many-to-many relationship connecting products and categories.)

Easy- click C symbol in the admin beside the product - choose Link to another category.

Note: you can also use, via the same C for Copy, the Multiple Categories Link Manager ...

Rather a handy tool that most are not really familar with yet can save hours of time in working with Products and Categories ...

NOTE: a Category must contain at least 1 Product to show in the Multiple Categories Link Manager checkboxes ...

On the same line, is there a way to copy several products at one time to one category?

Hi Tina,

I think it's the same answer. On the same admin page where you can link one product to another category, there is a button to open up the Multiple Categories Link Manager. I took a quick look at it and it appears you can do that there. I think.

I guess what I was getting to, was is there a quick way? One at a time for many products will take forever!

Ah, I see. The Multiple Categories Link Manager can add all products in a category to some other category, but it can't do that to an arbitrary list of products. That would be useful.
