Default Need help with IE6 compatability

First off, I'm just starting out with CSS so whatever I've done wrong may be painfully obvious. I'm trying to improve the look of my main page by adding a few services 'ad' type images to the right side of my two column layout. I am then adding a handcoded 'featured products' to the left of the services ads. The featured products consists of an image floated left and text that wraps around it.

See here for what I am talking about:

    http://www.decaldepot.net/zencart/index.php

All looks well in most browsers:

but not in IE6! Grrrrr.. Does anyone know any tricks to get it to work with IE6 too or is there a problem with my css code itself?

    TIA

Who ever created the template "Series_12_Guitar" that you are using should be contacted as the normal left center and right controls are missing from your layout and I can not easily determine what was done and not knowing this makes correcting IE in your situation a difficult proposition from afar.

Thanks for looking. I was able to find a solution at the devshed forums.

On the template, I really like the look, but I've found a couple of errors in the code and had some issues with the photoshop files (no guides and only a few slices). I've emailed support a few times and only received partial answers to my questions. While it looks like I will be able to work through the problems, I wouldn't recommend them to anyone who wants a plug-and-play solution. I doubt I'd get a reply asking them about th enormal left center and right controls you mentioned above.

    dinki,

This is a shame, but one that is common among template providers where they make pleasing looking templates but donot remain within the styling framework of the base application.

I, as probably you also, like the way your site looks in FF. But the reality is that many use IE and so it must also render correctly or all is for naught.

If you are brave, and have some basic knowledge, try a second install where you can pick apart the commercial template and apply it in the proper way to ZenCart and then you will have the beast whipped.

Thank you for the kind words. While I do have a good many hours of web design under my belt from previous projects, I purchased the template because I really don't have time to devote to doing the job myself. I can't say that I regret the way things are coming togther, but it definitely was not the smooth ride I had hoped for.

The changes I've made has fixed the IE6 issues but now the page renders a bit funny in IE5.5 . I'm seeing most of my traffic from IE6 customers so I'm glad it renders well for that browser! CSS is a wonderful thing, but it sure would be nice if all browsers would respond the same way to the CSS elements. Maybe some day the world will be perfect!

    dinki,

Glad that you found even a partial solution...

Looking just a bit deeper into your source, it appears that this is an attempt at a mostly semantic layout devoid of tables. At least the main page. I have not peek'd at other pages. but this is and has been a goal of a handful of of individuals and might not be as bad as I first inferred and is more interesting than I thought.

Good Luck!!! It is looking really nice!!

Yes, I just couldn't get things to look the way I wanted them to look using tables so I bit the bullet and got down and dirty with CSS. I knew it was the right way to go from the start but I was being lazy at first!

I'm planning on moving the inline style elements into the style sheet as soon as I get everything the way I want. It's much easier for me to tweak the way I have it now but will soon tidy everything up.

I'm planning on adding a seasonal flash banner above the featured products/service ads. The space definitely needs something extra. I'm hoping to make something that looks nice and isn't too heavy filesizewise. I'm afraid I might be pushing things for dialup users, but the nature of the website is images so I guess folks will expect to see them (if that makes sense).
