    help question Considering Zen Cart

    Hi,

I am considering using ZenCart on a project for one of my new clients. They want an online presence for there Second Hand Records (Vinly mostly) business and they have nearly 40'000 products.

Zen Cart Looks promising, especially the product catergories. My quesion is this...

Can I set up cutom fields for products? So when my client adds products to the store there would be all the default fields that are already there but also some more relevant one to his business, like "condition" "label" "genre" "limited edition" some would be drop downs ssome text fields some radios. Is this easily possible?

    Thanks in advance.

    Crin

This is possible with some custom programming to create your "vinyl" product-type.
In the Downloads area there are a few contributions of alternate product-type code that you could use as a model for extending the types of data collected/displayed.
There is some (limited) documentation in the /docs folder of the Zen Cart distribution files, as well as some information in the wiki related to product-type creation.

I think I will need to pass that onto someone with a bit more knowledge of PHP, I hoped it would be an easy job.

I'm having a few problems too, when I log on or off as a customer i get a 404, then when I hit back it's done it anyway. Anyone know what this could be?

You have configured the shop to use SSL and you do not have a Secure Certificate.

I'm using a shared certificate actually, I host with Heart Internet over here in the UK, I have a reseller account. They map a secure server for you and all the settings are put into zen automatically in the setup, do I still need ot make changes to the config file?

Zen cart assumes that you are using a dedicated SSL

you will need to make these changes in the configure.php files to point to the shared SSL

also it might require a totally seperate set of files to be in the secure space

    Hello everyone,

Ok two month down the line now and I have comitted to using zencart, I have it up and running and i have customised the graphics and layout to suit my slients needs.

I still require additional fields in the product types which are also searchable, I did find someone to help me with this but there workloads have forced me to try and find another means. Is there anyway I can do this myself by way of a tutorial? I'm NOT a programmer and have only a basic understanding of PHP and MySQL.

Also the client currently has there stock list in a Excel file and is wanting it erging into the database to avoid re-entering the 20,000+ records manually.

Please, any help would be appreciated, i'm in a bit of a fix with this one.

    Easy Populate from
    http://www.zencartbuilder.com/index....&products_id=1
NOT FREE, but if I had 20,000 products to add to zencart,
    would strongly consider purchasing
