    Default Downloadable product index.zip problem

    hi there

this is my first time posting, so please forgive me if I do this the wrong way. Newbie here!

ok, I have finally managed to set up the downloadable products, but when it come to the multiple downloads, the filename is being changed to index.zip on all of them, and unless the customer knows to change the name the index2.zip, etc. on the 2nd download when saving them, it will overwrite the first index.zip file. Is there something i am missing to make the download be the name of the file as it is named?

I am using the latest version, 1.3.6.

thanks in advance for any help you can give.

    regards
    Michelle

Have you an URL to your site?

Is this a unix or windows server?

How large is the download file?

    Is the download Zipped?

Does the filename contain spaces, special characters, extra periods in the filename, etc.?

Can you download small files? Such as the test.zip that came with Zen Cart?

Do you have Redirect turned on? If on a windows server, this must be turned OFF ...

If on a unix server and it does not work, usually this is because your hosting site does not have the site setup for utilizing the symbolic links in the file:
    /pub/.htaccess
#prevent directory browsing -- for security
    IndexIgnore */*

    Options +FollowSymLinks -Indexes
Or, that the file is too large for the limitations of your server that is set by your hosting site ...

You can contact your hosting site about these limitations and see if they can correct the problem ...

There is a "workaround" but you may wish to first see if you can get these limitations fixed as it is the "more secure" way to use the Downloads Features of Zen Cart ...

Otherwise, if you have no alternative, you can, on your unix server site, also turn Redirect OFF ... but again this is not the "desired" way to work with your download files ...

    the store is at: www.digitalchicboutique.com/cart2

It is hosted at Yahoo small business, but not sure if it is Windows or Unix.

The file is large - about 16MB each zip file.

Zipped - usually about 3 or 4 zipped files that get downloaded one by one.

No spaces in the filename - it is in a folder named: BabyBoySet then the file is for eg. BabyBoySet1.zip

I have tried it out of the folder too...

I can download the file, but the name always changes to index.zip. I have not tried it with a smaller file - will do that next too...

We have tried it with redirext off too...no luck there.

    thanks for the reply :)

10 to 1 you are hitting a server limit ... many are set to 8mb not sure what Yahoo uses ...

Check with your hosting site about the limitations ... may also wish to check on bandwidth limits and what files of this size will do to your site when ordered ...

I am am probably not the right one to answer your questions because I am so fresh to all of this. I have had help from Linda and Tina S. to get the downloads all going correctly. Thanks for the site compliments though!

The biggest error that occured on my end was actually following a post that had some bad info in it. Someone had posted that you must put a " / " in front of the file name when uploading it . (ie. /download.zip ) Not true--it will actually cause a world of problems. it should be download.zip . I spent a few days learning the hard way. So, my advice is to make sure you talk to someone who really knows what they are saying otherwise it is just a big waste of time! :-)
