adding extra fields to shop_products table

Is it ok to add extra fields to the [shop_products] table?

If I install future releases of ZenCart to upgrade the site will these extra fields I've added be deleted?

Additional fields will not be deleted ...

Be aware, however, that code that updates the records could be impaired or need tweaking depending on how it is written to keep your new fields properly propigated with information ...

Proper backups of both your database and site should help manage this issue, should it arise ...
