Default Trouble with the overide system

I'm using the latest version of Zencart (v. 1.3.6)
I created the following overide directories:

    includes/languages/english/CUSTOM
    includes/templates/CUSTOM/buttons/english/

    I coppied the file "button_names.php"

    from: includes/languages/english (original dir)

    to: includes/languages/english/CUSTOM (my custom dir)

I changed the following parts of the file,
    ( includes/languages/CUSTOM/buttons/english/button_names.php)

    1)The alt tags and
2)I changed some of the link locations directing them to the images i placed inside includes/templates/CUSTOM/buttons/english/

For some reason my images are not showing up on my site rather its using the same original ones from
    template_default/buttons/english
also the alt tags did'nt change
any help as to why the overide system isnt working?
    Thanx.

Because you do not have to change the paths- The program is smart and knows it is supposed to look in the override directory. You only need to touch button_names.php if you change the name of a button.

    you dont change the path
put the path back to what it was

zen cart knows to look in your Over rides folder first if it dosnt find what its looking for it then goes to the stock folder,

    Thanx Merlinpa1969 that worked!

so essentially i don't need to create a custom folder

    includes/languages/english/CUSTOM

and copy the button_names.php file into that folder!
all i have to do is create a custom template and have the images
in buttons/english/ and name the files exactly how they were originally
in template_default the only dif. is the actual images,

That is odd however since the tutorial sais to copy "button_names" to a CUSOM folder? why would that necessary?

by the way any clue as to where

    "button_update_cart.gif" and "small_delete.gif"
(the delete and refresh icons in the cart)
are hiding out in the php? i cant seem to find them in button_names.php?

    Thanx alot.

The buttons belong to your template in the:
    /includes/templates/your_template_dir/buttons/english/
The language file for the button definitions belong in the
    /includes/languages/english/your_template_dir/button_names.php
