    Default Greetings! .. and HELP!

Hello all, I'm new here... and I need help.

I have been running around in circles for the last day and a half trying to chase this one down. Feel like I have exhausted my resources, gotten dizzy, and decided it's time to break down and ask for a little help.

    The Problem:

I can not log into the Admin section.

    Behavior:

When entering my Admin UserID and password, the browser processes a moment and then returns me right back to the login page.

    The Environment:

I am attempting to set up an offline Zen-Cart store on my computer so that I can learn about it, Master it, Love it, before going live.

    Hardware: Apple Powerbook PPC G4
    OS: 10.4.8
Server: Apache 1.3 (part of the OS package from Apple)
    PHP: Version 5.2.0
    MySql: Version 5.0.27

Zencart is installed with the Demo Product data. I installed with no SSL, per installation recommendations.

I can browse to Zencart at: http://127.0.0.1/~username/zen-cart/ and it loads just fine. I have had no problem navigating through any of the screens. Some of the functions are not working (registration, sending mail) but I assume that is because I have not yet configured it with the Admin tools.

I have read, and checked, the troubleshooting guides. I have confirmed that the zen-cart/cache folder is indeed the cache path and that it is 777.

I have checked the includes/config.php and admin/includes/config.php files to verify that they are correct. I beleive they are. http and https servers are set for 127.0.0.1.

I've cleared browser cache and cookies. I've renamed .htaccess to see if it affected behavior. It didn't.

I'm at a loss. When I say I am new to this, it's no joke. I'm new to Zen, new to PHP, and new to MySql. I think I've done well to get as far as I have, but this one is eluding my grasp.

Please let me know what specific information I can provide to help in resolving my issue. I am very excited about, and looking forward to learning and using Zen-cart!

And thanks very, very much in advance!

    Random,

I'm am no where near an expert, but I would 1st check that you are accepting cookies and that a firewall is not blocking them.

Also, although this may be obvious...are you sure you didn't type the password or login incorrectly? Have you tried to resend password?

Hope this helps or gets you started till someone else can offer other assistance.

I had already checked and double checked my UID and PW. I even removed and reinstalled clean to make sure that I hadn't forgotten what combination I used. I am certain I know the UID and PW.

When I key in valid info it just brings me back to the login page with no error msg. If I intentionally enter an invalid combo then I get the error msg " You entered the wrong username or password." Which is what I would expect.

I tried the resend password button in the previous install and it indicates that the infor has been sent to my e-mail. But it does not actually get sent. I assumed this was because I had not had the chance to configure something within the Admin tools. But it may be a clue of another sort. One that I am not knowledgable enough to interpret.

The browsers (Firefox, Safari*, and IE of Mac) are all set to accept cookies.

I must profess to being a bit ignorant on the inner workings of Firewalls. If I don't have firewall issues in accessing the www could it still be a problem within the local environment?

Hmmm, Also, I am running Sophos Anti-Virus. I'm hoping that doesn't have anything to do with it.

    * [As a side note the bottom spacing of the admin login box (where the error message appears) doesn't display propery in Safari - being a little thinner than in other browsers. Like the line spacing is different or it's missing a line.]

Well, I'm still sitting right where I was. I can't log into the admin tools it just brings me back to that screen again.

I needed a break from it... so I downloaded wampserver (saw someone here mention it in another thread).

Wow! After spending a week self educating and setting up PHP, MySql and Zencart (as far as can) on my Mac laptop, I have to say that I was both thrilled and disgusted at how fast wampserver set up the whole environment for me on a WinXP based system. thrilled to have all the legwork 'just happen' and disgusted that it was so painstaking to find the stuff and peice it all together for my Mac.

I'd still very much like to proceed with Zen on my Mac because it's portable and I can work from anywhere. But at least now it looks like I will be able to get into ZenCart and really start learning about IT instead of all the other programs.

    Happy Thanksgiving all.

I was hoping that installing the WinXP version would help me determine the source of my problem... and it paid off! In the windows install I got an error message on the admin screen immediatley. In the Mac OS X build I did *not* get this error message.

It's actually a bug with the newer version of PHP. Details and solutions can be found at: http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showth...587#post287587

Now, off to explore the Admin tools and finaly begin to learn Zencart!!

    Yay!

    Random,

Have you installed MAMP on your trusty mac. Works fine for me and enables me to test and run zen and other programmes first ebfore launching them. Only thing to remember when you come to upgrade make a copy of the htdocs folder and then move it back into the MAMP structure after upgrade cos it wipes it clean.

Hope it helps and keeps you away from the dreaded windoze machine.

    Pete
