required attribute not working 1.3.6

Make an Option Value such as:
Select a Color
Default
Display Only

Now the customer has to pick Black or Rust as they cannot leave it set to:
Select a Color ... as that is set to: Display Only

My required text-fileds do not work neither with classic nor with custom template any longer. Previously they worked fine.

Installed yesterday "Image Handler2", may this affect this functionality?

I´ve got the same error: checkout possible without filling required text-field.
Read your your posting here. Did you solve meanwhile this problem and if yes, what is the bug? I´m asking direct to you because there is apearently nobody whith similar problems and solutions. Would be great if you can give a short reply and/or a trace.
