    Default Re: Shipping Multiple Items

I am using the weight field now for shipping. I don't understand how the handling fee works. I have never used perunitweight and don't know how it would affect how my site works currently. Could you elaborate?

In the weight field I have $4.95 $5.95 etc. but it defaults to $5.00 $6.00 etc. during checkout. Also on the product info page it says Shipping $5.95lbs. I've been unable to find the correct file to remove the lbs. I had rather it display the rounded up number but don't know how to do that unless I change the shipping of all 4,000+ products.

    Please help if you can.

    the products_weight * quantity * unit rate = shipping

Are you entering in the products_weight:
    $5.95

Or are you entering in the products_weight:
    5.95

Also note, perunitweight should have the Tare set to 0:0 and you should make the largest package high enough to the the shipping cost ... so if you think shipping will go to $500.00 set that to 500

I set the Tare to 0:50 (50 pounds)
    PerUnitweight I set to 100 ($100.00)

    I'm entering 5.95 without the $

Now this is what I see after I do the perunit on a $5.95 shipping item

    Per Unit
    Best Way $2,847.50

The perweightunit is meant to be more or less the only shipping module ...

    Enter in the products_weight 5.95

Set the setting on the shipping module to 1 for:
The shipping cost will be used to determin shipping charges based on: Product Quantity * Units (products_weight) * Cost per Unit - in an order that uses this shipping method.
    Order 2 products ...

    2 * 5.95 * 1 = 11.90

You are chargin a 100 or $100 per unit in the products_weight ... as in 100 times too much ...

Tara of 0:50 is adding 50lbs which translates on the perweightunit to $50.00 to the order ...

Well I went back to table rate like I've always been set up. I can't get the hang of setting up the perweight unit and tare and make it work correctly. I guess I will just put a notice on the shipping page that I will manually adjust the shipping charges after they complete the order. I know this is pretty archaic but it seems to be the only solution that will work for me.

    Thanks,

Just want to see if anyone has any thoughts on this. I'm still not happy with the way this is working. If this is something that needs coding then let me know so I can post on the help wanted forum.

You said you went back to table rates ... not much to say to that

You asked if anyone had any thoughts on this ... but kinda vague as to thoughts on what part as you started one way and changed a few ... so not much to say to that

You bumped the post ... not much to say to that ...

Now you want to know if this is the right place to post ... Yes ...

Now post a whole complete thought in a post to tie together all your posts so we know what we are now talking about as you have flipped around the shipping methods and now we don't know precisely what it is you want to do, talk about, try, are using etc. ...

Okay, let me start over. I can't seem to get the per unit weight set up correctly. I currently have my shipping charge in the weight field. I would like to have it set up so that if a customer orders more than one item then an additional $1.00 or $2.00 (based on the item weight) is added to the shipping charge rather than show the shipping charge twice. I will be shipping it in the same box so basically just want to add a little additional to cover the cost of packing and any extra weight it may add. The problem is that if it is a postcard that is no weight at all and I can ship two for the same as one. But if it is glassware, I may need to add a few dollars more.

Not sure if it can be done so just think about what I'm trying to do and see if you can come up with anything. Right now I just have a note at the top of the checkout page that I will reduce the shipping charge on multiple items but they have to complete the order first and then I update it.
