You said you went back to table rates ... not much to say to that

You asked if anyone had any thoughts on this ... but kinda vague as to thoughts on what part as you started one way and changed a few ... so not much to say to that

You bumped the post ... not much to say to that ...

Now you want to know if this is the right place to post ... Yes ...

Now post a whole complete thought in a post to tie together all your posts so we know what we are now talking about as you have flipped around the shipping methods and now we don't know precisely what it is you want to do, talk about, try, are using etc. ...

Okay, let me start over. I can't seem to get the per unit weight set up correctly. I currently have my shipping charge in the weight field. I would like to have it set up so that if a customer orders more than one item then an additional $1.00 or $2.00 (based on the item weight) is added to the shipping charge rather than show the shipping charge twice. I will be shipping it in the same box so basically just want to add a little additional to cover the cost of packing and any extra weight it may add. The problem is that if it is a postcard that is no weight at all and I can ship two for the same as one. But if it is glassware, I may need to add a few dollars more.

Not sure if it can be done so just think about what I'm trying to do and see if you can come up with anything. Right now I just have a note at the top of the checkout page that I will reduce the shipping charge on multiple items but they have to complete the order first and then I update it.

The Per Unit perweightunit is based on:

    (products_weight * unit price * quantity) + handling ...

Are you able to set a handling fee to manage the smallest you will ship for, to account for the little bitty things ... and then use the products_weight as if this were the shipping charge based on the above formula?

More or less if it comes down to the cheapest you ship is $1.75 are the orders going to really be a problem on shipping if handling is 1.75 and unit charge is 1 so that 10 postcards set to products_weight 0.1 would be:

    (0.1 * 1 * 10) + 1.75

And a product with a products_weight of 1.25 would be:

    (1.25 * 1 * 10) + 1.75

Or, can you just alter or customize the Per Unit perweightunit that when the total weight of the order <=XX.XX you charge YY.YY otherwise do the normal calculation?

I'm sorry Linda. I just don't get what you are saying. I might have a large item that will ship for 7.95 then they add a small piece of jewelry that I've set to ship for 5.95 but since I can add the jewelry to the first order I can ship both for 7.95 since it does not add weight. But if they ordered another large item I would need to charge a little extra.

You complicate the Shipping too much ...

Unless you really want to get into a custom Shipping Module that would involve several specific types of calculations for your Products you will have a hard time setting something up to manage everything under every circumstance ...

You could use a Handling charge on this to offset when the jewlery is purchased alone for the minimum charge ... but that adds it to the big product purchase too ...

Now if you offset the shipping charges with the handling it might help balance out the shipping charges for all of the orders ...

Or, you could customize the module to only charge the handling fee when the weight is <= XX and not charge it on the heavier orders ... under the assumption that the products_weight has the correct charge in there ...
