Found thread http://www.zen-cart.com/forum/showth...+page+products which came close to what we need to do but didn't seem to really answer the question.

At http://www.nemg.us.cart is an html example of what we need the front page to look like all the time. We may need to have the cart contents appear on the right but will definitely turn off the left column and use categories tabs menu to list what little we have. There are so few products that we want the first hit to look as if the customer came to the site and clicked on all products.

We need the main page to always display as shown at the above link.
