How to Display Products Sorted by Data Added

The Product Listing is used when you navigate a Category, as in get to the list via the cat box ... or when you do a search ...

There are, however, two different sections of code managing the select statement as one is performing a listing where as the other is performing a search ...

Okay, I have a client who says she used to be able to sort the items by date added when a manufacturer was chosen from the Drop Down Box. She said it was done in the Product Listing screen where she had 5a chosen as sort order, but she says now that we've upgraded to 1.3.7, it's not working. Does that make sense? If so, can I fix it?

It seems that no matter what I enter in that box, they are sorted alphabetically by the name of the item.

What is 5a suppose to represent?

NOTE: the products_price_sorter is not up to date ...

Make sure that your products all have master_categories_id settings ...

There is a reset in the Tools ... Store Manager ...

NOTE: if you need to reset your master_categories_id this sets it based on the first one found in the products_to_categories table ...

If the master_categories_id is not set, this should be run first ... then the products_price_sorter can be run ...

I like to think I know my way around Zen pretty well, Linda, but you just went straight over my head.

As for the first question, I thought earlier in your post, you listed up to 8...didn't you?

Each column represents a number ...

That number alters based on the order but is limited to the number of columns ...

If you have 4 columns then you should have 4 values ...

If Model was the 2nd column it would be 2 ... but if you rearrange the order and Modle is 3rd column it is now 3 ...

If you had 5 columns you would have 1 to 5 that could be used ...

But if you use 5 in the sort order then remove column 2 then 5 becomes 4 ... if you removed column 5 then not only is there no 5 there is nothing to match 5 in the sort ...

What do you "think" the default sort was suppose to be based on? Click on that title until sorted the right way ... what is its sort= in the URL?

This is the new Default sort order value ... easy, eh?

Note the settings in the first post were based on the dropdown for New, Featured and All listing ...

You said your problem was with the Product Listing ... this is the one from navigating the Categories sidebox or doing searches or picking a manufactuer, record company or music genre ...
