    Default Override Question

Have installed 1.3.6 and started implementing the override templates. What I have found is that the whole interface changes from the Green Template to some wacky graphics.

You can see what I mean here: www.cypack.com.au

    Is this right?
Do I need to customise from here?
Or have I missed a step somewhere?

Given I will customise from the Green Template further, this is not an problem, but I would like the layout of the Green Template and to avoid completely customising the layout if I dont have to.

    Thoughts?

Looks like you forgot to copy the 'css' dir., from the 'classic' to your 'custom' dir.

    That is exactly the fix!

I had copied the css directory from the template_default rather than the classic one!

So are all "copy from" instructions from the classic directory?

No. The Template you are using should have provided its own 'css' dir. and any other required files/directories, needed to make the Template work. From here on in, once you edit 'core' files you will need to put them in their proper 'custom' dir. Best to read the Forum FAQs on Templating or search using keyword: overrride.

Thanks for the help. I will be customising to my hearts content now.

Just to point out, in the sticky, it says to copy the css folder from the template_default folder into the custom folder; not the classic folder.

The theory behind the overrides is that you don't change ANYTHING they give you. Put everything that will be changed into new folders that you create. In different tutorials or FAQs they call this new folder different things, like custom. That just means whatever you decided to call your template (which could be custom)

Zencart comes with two different starting points for your overrides, classic and template_default with template_default being the newer version. Which ever you pick to be your starting point, copy those files to the new folders that you created.

So say you want to call your overrides "thisismine". Whereever you see a classic or template_default directory, create a "thisismine" folder next to it. Then any files you are going to change, just copy from (if you are using classic as your base) the classic folder to the thisismine folder.

In admin, you need to specify that you are using the "thisismine" template and reset the side boxes.

If you just change the files in either classic or template_default, they could get overlaid when you do an later upgrade of zencart.

    A clarification:
If you are starting from the Classic template, you do need to copy all the files that are in /classic/ directories to /custom/ directories.
But if you are starting from /template_default/ to create your own look, you should only copy the files you are actually changing. Make a /custom/ directory everywhere you see a /classic/ directory, but you will save time, energy and possibly speed if you leave unmodified files alone in /template_default/.
