    Default Download Problem

When the file to be downloaded is actually in the download directory and the customer clicks on the link to download it - they are sent to a blank page. When I try it, I get the message "Bad Response from Server".

When the file to be downloaded is NOT in the download directory, the customer gets this error message "Sorry. File not found. Please contact the webmaster to report this error. c/f: DOWNLOADFILENAME.zip"

The file system was working four days ago. The server folks (on a LINUX system) say nothing has changed in the last four days. We did install an SSL certificate three days ago and enabled it in the three locations within the two configure.php files.

    To troubleshoot, we've:
    1. Disabled the SSL. The downloads still don't work (although they did a few days ago).
    2. Turned on and off the REDIRECT and STREAMING one at a time. Downloads still don't work (downloads did work with both turned off a few days ago).
    3. Verified the pub/.htaccess file had this (does the download directory need an .htaccess file?): #prevent directory browsing -- for security
    IndexIgnore */*
    Options +FollowSymLinks -Indexes
    4. The files ARE accessible if you type their address directly within the browser.
    5. The files are zip files.
    6. The files are ~256KB and less.
    7. The customer had not installed any other plug-ins recently.

So, basically, no one did anything - the system just stopped working. Go figure.

What else should I be looking at?

Is your server's errorlog telling you anything?

In your Downloads Manager of the admin area, what's the status of all your files?

    Famous words for sure.

What *exactly* did your host do to "activate" SSL ?
Turning it off in your configure.php files is entirely different than the settings changes they may have made in order to install SSL services.

As you suggested elsewhere, you'll likely need to set some breakpoints in the code to "echo" the status of different things in order to diagnose what's happening where. Not likely to be fun.

If the errorlog contains some details, that'll be a huge help.

    Thanks for the help DrByte.

The files are all there with their little green circles in the Downloads Manager.

I just enabled the error log on the server (wasn't activated originally); I then retried the checkout/download procedure again a few times and there is nothing showing up in the error log.

The SSL certificate was installed using the normal procedure for the HSphere Control Panel. When we say we disabled it to test the system, we ONLY disabled it from within the ZenCart system. We did not uninstall the certificate from the server. I guess I could do this - haven't tried it before; shoule be relatively easy to reinstall it?

Fixed the problem by completely disabling the SSL from not ony the ZenCart system but by removing it from the webserver - then reinstalling it.

Typical - if a computer is broke - turn it on and off and it'll magically fix it.

Here we removed/reinstalled the SSL certificate and magically fixed the system.

    Go figure.
