Resetting Customer ID's

We have our shop live and have gotten some orders through it. We also have a bunch of test customers on there that we created. If we delete those test customers, is there a way to get the customer numbers to update so there aren't missing customer numbers (so we know exactly how many customers we have)?

The customer id numbers are auto incrementing ...

They are located in multiple tables and once you are Live it would be very difficult to alter this to restart the numbering without a really strong awareness of what you are doing with the tables ...
