My One Step Checkout System...

Fair enough. I developped the system to meet my personal needs, but to include all payment options shouldn't be too hard. If I develop this it won't be for a little while, things are very busy just at present. I had been planning also to have GV options on the page, so... it sounds like what is needed is a single page checkout, with functions that can be controlled from admin, such as what payment options should be displayed, what shipping options etc.

I think you are on to something good. Zen cart is in the need of a one step check out system. A model to look at is how Volusion is doing it. I looked at their demo store and the checkout is on one page with 4 sections:

1 Billing info
2 shipping info
3 shipping method
4 payment method

submit and you are done. I think this should be on the wish list for a future release. A mod that would achieve the same thing would be great too. Thank you for initiating this.

this is scheduled for a future release,
the entire checkout is scheduled for a complete overhaul, this has been in the roadmap for a long time

There would also need to be either jscript, ajax, or page reload for multiple shipping options to update the final price unless you just let the customer do the math in their head.

Also, the credit card validation is performed during step2 of the checkout procedure so you will need to be sure you don't accept the order if the cc is declined. So be sure to keep people aware that currently this is currently only valid for paypal only sites with one shipping method.

I agree, it will take a lot of good planning and testing to work with multiple options. Jscript should work for updating prices. Might have to create a 2 page checkout system with a seperate "credit card" page for new customers. Once they've registered once, it would be stored in their information so they can go straight through to the full checkout page, with an edit button next to their credit card, so if they want to enter new details they can. How about that? Anyway as I said, if I DO do any work on it, it'll be after christmas.

Yes this single checkout is badly needed. Is this the same mod that DemonAngel posted? Looking for a link to test.
