Xmasy javascript working in IE7 but not firefox - help

Hi.

I have a shop running for my friend on one of my servers

she asked if I could add a falling snow script to the page... so I got the script she gave me, and added it to the tpl_main_page.php file...and it seems to work....
but only in IE.

In firefox (and Safari I think) it displays a single snowflake, and does nothing.

I saved the generated HTML localy to see if I could figure it out... and removing the first line :
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

makes it work in firefox

can anyone point me in the right direction?

Try replacing the DDT with this one.

Code:

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"
"http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">

But note, this will not validate as xhtml transitional.
