error during checkout (needs to upgrade)

my zen cart has been malfunctioning, not completing the
checkout process, giving an unspecified error message. I've had this problem once before, and had to repair permissions on a file on server. I'm
just not sure which file to repair permissions, and if read/write/execute
all need to be checked. I've already troubleshot with both isp and gateway, so I know the issue is not there.

I've Tried to think what may have changed on the server in the past few days, but this has happened once before, and my programmer walked me through fixing it by repairing permissions on a file.

i also checked to see if the sale was at least being recorded in my database
if it was, then it's more likely that the issue is with the payment
processor. But it is not, and People can/do still register, but not transact

the payment processor is not receiving any request, nor is it coming up as errors.

I have Asked my ISP to check their logs and forward anything relevant to you. They're not seeing errors, their ports are open, been through it w/ them....

Any ideas which file on server needs to repair read/write permissions?
