"Revoke" Gift Certificate

We have a bricks & mortar store as well as our online store. We want to make it so gift certificates purchased online can be used at the real store - but we have to make sure that when someone does that, we can take the money away from their online account (so they don't have both).

Is there a way to do this?

At this time, Gift Certificates are managed solely via the purchase/order method ... as they are considered Cash and Cash does not get lost ... only stolen ...

The only other option is to delete a Gift Certificate in the queue prior to releasing it ... but again that would have to be manual ...

What can be done is if the GV has been claimed then used at the physical store, is reduce the customers GV balance manually ... but again there is no tracking for this ...

You would be better off making a product for In Store GVs ... and have the customer login and checkout with XX amount or you do it for them ...

We will be adding on to the Gift Certificates and Discount Coupons in future releases to add many more features and flexibilites with tracking for cancellations, reductions, increases, etc.

If this is something that you really need done yesterday, you might wish to either post in the Commerical Help wanted for help, or contact someone on the Zen Cart Team to customize this code properly for you ...

I am in a very similar situation. Although, I did create two separate products. 1 for each...

however, about 5 people bought online gift certificates before I created the new 'In person" gift certificate. (all this in one day!)

So... i need to remove their GV from the Database. Which I'm pretty sure I could do manually on my own... however,

How can I change the product in their invoices from the Online Certificate to the In Store certificate? (two different products)

I have Super Orders installed but I am told that feature is not implemented yet. Is there any other way to change their product without having to have them rebuy the certificates?

Okay, so i think i may have solved my problem. I went into phpMyAdmin and edited the orders_products. and changed the the product ID, name, and prod_prid to the new product. And kept the other info in tact.

Then went into coupons_gv_queue and removed the unneeded GV's.

All seems to work perfect so far!

hope I'm not cluelessly missing something... hehehe

I went into phpMyAdmin...

I thought about hacking it that way, too...but I didn't want to have to digging around various tables to make sure I hadn't introduced an anomaly somewhere. Database normalization is my friend! But if you've had success with this method, perhaps I should re-think my strategy....

you're absolutely right.

it did happen to work for me, but i felt dirty about it.

i very easily could have missed something. but it was only 3 orders, and all seems to be okay.

But I still probably wouldn't do it again.
