Using Zen Cart on a site with all custom products

I am creating a website with all custom products - every order is a unique product that is manufactured to order (i.e the customer configures their product on the website). Is this something that zencart could support? I don't want to use zen cart's catalog, just the shopping cart and checkout functionality.

How much modification would be neccesary to make this work? If zen cart isn't suited to the task, any idea of what product might be?

It sounds to me as though you can use the attributes controller to create a unique product. I assume that each product starts with a base product of some sort and from there you can add whatever attributes necessary to achieve the final product.

Depending upon what you are offering it can be that simple or more complex.

Zen Cart is not modular and you can not just pick the pieces that you want and ignore the rest. This has to do with security and sessions in short.
