    Default Installation script error

I'm a total newb at this shopping cart stuff so I'm going to try and break this down as simple as possible.

I used FileZilla to download the extracted contents of ZenCART 1.3.6 on my server under a dir called /catalog. Everything was cool and I followed the installation instructions to the T, renaming the nessesary files, setting up directory and file permissions to 777. Then this.

I had to enable CGI_scripting in my OPS panel. OK it's good to go so I jump onto the catalog dir expecting the installation to start up and I get this error message.

    500 Internal Server Error
The server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling the request.
The script had an error or it did not produce any output. If there was an error, you should be able to see it in the error log.

    CGI_script error log reads
[Wed Dec 13 12:15:49 2006] [error] (2)No such file or directory: Apache::SubProcess exec of /usr/local/users/pow/w/e/pow.weaponxperformance/php/php failed

Two hours of frustration later I re-download, clear cache, still same results. Delete that version and install the version that my provider "auto installs", clear cache, still same results.

Delete that version, re-install 1.3.6, re-follow instructions and nothing. Any help you guys can provide me would be greatly appreciated.

Which folder are you attempting to install into?

Zencart needs to be installed in your public_html (or htdocs, et al) folder on the server - sounds like you have it in cgi_bin?

Thanks for the heads up but yes all the files have been placed under htdocs/catalog folder on the server.

Not an answer to this specific problem but is this a new hosting account? or do you have a lot of other items installed?

If new, you might talk to your host and get moved to a 'nix server. This will prove a better bet in the long run. php on cgi is an issue. JMO

This is a pretty new account. Only thing that is on the server is my site.

At this point I don't think it is a problem with ZenCART since I tried to install osCommerce with the exact same results. Called my provider and they said in order for CGI-scripting to work properly the server must be reset. This happens twice a day. Only stupid thing is that the server was reporting the script errors!?

I will find out if that is the issue after 6pm. Crossing my fingers.
Thanks for the heads up guys.
