Default Re: Customer getting GV error

This is an old thread, but I'm getting the same error. This is on a 1.3.8a site.

    Item: gift certificate
    Product is Virtual: yes
    Always Free Shipping: yes

When the GV is purchased by itself with no other items with a credit card (Authorize.net), we get this error:

"Ship To First Name is required. - Your credit card could not be authorized for this reason. Please correct the information and try again or contact us for further assistance."

Could it be that Authorize.net requires a shipping address?

I've gotten around this temporarily by setting product is virtual to No, but it would be nice to not have to go through the shipping page of checkout if it isn't necessary.

    Thanks!

You have a setting wrong on your Gift Certificates ...

1 Product is Virtual: Yes, Skip Shipping Address

2 Always Free Shipping: No, Normal Shipping Rules

3 Product Model must start with, in CAPS, GIFT

We've got everything set just as you have it, but we've been having this problem consistently for 2+ years. There is definitely some kind of confict somewhere, but we've been unable to find it. It doesn't happen to every customer, so the conflict is tough to track. My work-around for some time was to have another "test" item in the shop at a price of $0 with free shipping; if the customer placed the gift certificate and test item in the cart, we were good to go. But, when we redesigned the site, we were trying to be a bit more professional and not have the "test" item. Unfortunately, the problem has still not gone away...
