What's the difference between using this download or just posting Google's tracking code directly to the "templates/custom/common/tpl_main_page.php"?

If I choose not to use this download, can I just do what I mentioned in my first post?

Also, for your download, what if I've already deleted the install directory?

Yes you just will not receive any e-commerce data meaning you will not see how much you make per conversion from what source and so forth...this data is quit useful for tracking your advertising and seeing what works for you and what does not. In my opinion you will be missing some key info without tracking your sales.

But yes you can do basic tracking with just pasting the code in your template

Analytics doesn't appear to be tracking more than general visits, I guess I'll have to learn how to set up goals and such.

If you are looking for ecommerce tracking you must turn it on in google analytics...that might be what you are looking for
