Default Re: Unabe to log into Admin after renaming admin folder

In the same "H E double hockey sticks" here.
After making the changes per the Tutorial and getting an epic fail I tried to revert to my backups and I still can't get into the admin section with either the new or old name.

The messages I get in a browser when I'm trying to log in are
Cannot send session cookie - headers already sent by (output started at /home/content (snip)
Cannot send session cache limiter - headers already sent (output started at /home/content (snip)
Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/conten (snip)

Im taking a wild guess that what has broken the whole operation is that perhaps you have to manually log out of admin to make all the changes.
Anyone think that this could be why so many of us are having failures making the changes and also failures trying to change back?

    Hello

Thought you might like to know the problem can be fixed.

In my FTP client I found 2 configure.PHP files, it turns out you have to change both of them, they don't automaticly update the changes you make in wordpad ect

Also if you have a www. folder make sure you make the changes there as well & your admin will come back. No information gets lost & you can carry on as normal.

I found the problem for me.
It was that the bottom of the configure php file had blank lines.

If when you open your configure php file and it looks like this...

then hit backspace until the cursor is up to the last line of code

save the file and upload again (don't forget the chmod settings)

    • zen-cart-v1.3.8a-full-fileset-12112007
    • installed security patch
    • installed easy populate
    • Changed admin folder name

After changing my admin name, I receive the message regarding 2 options for viewing that message... 1, first time users have to use the install; and 2, modify /includes/configure.php...

I don't have the configure.php file that everybody seems to have and am not sure what to do.

In the following directories, I have these type of configuration files:

    /includes/
dist-configure.php (no option to rename /admin/ here)

    /admin/includes/

    dist-configure.php (/admin/ is here)

I even did a global search for /admin/ within those 2 directories and could not find any relevant match. one mention was within a comment string and the other was in the message being displayed when I try to login.

Now, when I change the /admin/ over to the /newname/, I still have that message displayed and I can not proceed...

    Please help!

When I first went to my admin folder to rename it I had no configure.php file, just the "dist-configure.php" file. everything in it matched what they said to chage so I chaged it and went thru everything else like it said, uploaded the file, went to my file manager and changed it there as well. i can get to the login screen and it will take the login and password but then it goes to an error screen (404).

When I go into my file manager I do have the configuration.php file, so I then tried to download the file into my admin folder so I would have it to modify and it looks nothing like what they said to modify.

What on earth am I doing wrong?!?!?!?

Please help ASAP I can't get into my cart to add inventory at all.

I have had the same problem as everyone here, if I download and start over will it mess up my templates and all my settings? I don't want to have to start completely over, i have a back up of my cart so i'm not worried about the data, but all the templates and different things ive added like modules...

If you wipe out everything on your server and/or your database, then yes you'll be starting over from scratch, without the data.

The process for renaming the admin folder is clearly spelled out in the FAQ area:
