Alpha-sorter for a different alphabet?

How can one implement a different (namely, Cyrillic) alphabet in alpha-sorter? Where is the letters_list located? (All my products have Russian titles).

On the sorting-related topic: my searches appear to be case-sensitive; is there a way to turn that feature off?

The alpha sorter is managed in:
/includes/modules/product_listing_alpha_sorter.php
