Special Product - Customized Inscription?

Looking for a way to offer a special add-on to a product. I am selling products where I want to allow the user to have a personal inscription written on the product. I will be charging for this service and i want a way for the user to enter in the exact text they want for that product. As an example, John Doe orders a book. He then asks to add on a personal inscription. This would then prompt him for text to enter to capture exactly what he wants personally inscribed on 'THAT' book. Also, if he is ordereing more than one book, it is important to associate his inscription with that particular book. Lastly, I want to charge an extra $5.00 for this personal inscription add-on. Ideas?

There are Text attributes that can be added ...

Also, in the Option Name that you setup for the Text attribute you can configure that to be 1 or multiple rows ... peek in the Edit for these settings ...

And, you can add the charge of 5.00 to the attribute and that will only be charged if the text is filled in ...

That works very well for what I was looking for. I just wish there was more room for adding a description. I would have liked to fully explain the instructions to the end user instead of being limitted to the handful of characters that it allows you to enter in the attribute description.

If you are talking about the 'Comments' text box, I was using that. The trouble was that it restricts you to 64 characters and my option description is longer than that. The 'Rows', 'Display Size' and 'Max Length' appear to only address the comments box where you will capture customer text. I may see if I can just use more of the option name to describe the option and then what's leftover, I will put in the comments box. It's not exactly what I was looking for but it will do.

If you need a large Comments field ... edit your products_options table and set the width from 64 to 128 etc.
