I can only speak for my tool here ( zen-bck / Zen Button Construction Kit ) that requires you to install it on a web server with PHP, GD >= 2.0.12 and FreeType support to use it with your own button templates. It comes with an installation file that describes how to create your own templates, together with post #38 in this thread this should be sufficient explanation what to do.
