Images: Shop/images or Upgrade/images

After upgrading from 1.3.1 to 1.3.6 I see two folders in my ftp file listing: shop and upgrade. The contents seem to be basically the same and I assumed that from this point forward I would be working in the "upgrade" folder. However, when I ftp numerous images of new product into the "upgrade/images" folder as I've always done with "shop/images" the images do not appear in store. If I use the old method of "shop/images" they do.

Can any of you enlighten me as to the ins and outs of post-upgrade life? Should I be bouncing back and forth between the "shop" and "upgrade" folders in this manner?

Check the permissions on the /upgrade/images directory and all subdirectories that they are set to 777

Thanks Linda, that's most likely the problem. Unfortunately I have issues with my current host about allowing me to change permissions. (or even add modules, which I do anyway) When I do so, the immediately revert back to 666. This is an issue with a number of modules I'd like to install, as well. The good news is that I'm now just a day or so away from switching hosts: Camelot here I come!
It'll be good to be in a Zen-Friendly environment!

I'll make the recommended changes at that point and see if it does the trick.
