It's been said before, but Help please

I spent the past several days trying to muddle my way through setting up an online store, and I have also spent many hours reading through the posts, looking at questions and answers, some have even helped me with some of my problems, I have read through the FAQs and the wiki but find I am still in need of much help. Please don't laugh at my sorry efforts, this is still a work in progress. I don't want to make this post to long so I will ask about one thing at a time.
When you click on a product and it takes you to another page, there is a contact us button where I believe should be an add to cart button, also where are the other buttons, like check out, continue shopping, view cart, typical buttons you see on normal shopping carts. Sorry for sound so dense, but I am very new to php. HTML I get very well, but not the php thing yet. Thanks for any help with this, in a long series of questions to come.

Go to your Admin> Configuration> My Store and turn the store to normal shop mode instead of showcase

OK, same store address, How do you change or get rid of the TagLine Here?
And what are the files that I can edit to change the side boxes? Thanks again for any help with this. It is so great to be able to find friendly helpful people when using new programs like this.
