Default New Install on Windows XP Pro Media Center

I would like to have a "test" environment on my laptop which is running Windows XP Pro Media Center, IIS5.1. I downloaded and run php-5.2.0-win32-installer (un-installed and re-installed twice), but when I look under start, all programs, PHP5- I see only licence txt. I need PHP to run Zen Cart on my laptop, correct?? What am I doing wrong??

    Hi Sunabac
You need to download and install easy php, which will give you the working environment you need. Hope you enjoy inventing your shop, it can take hours but very gratifying in the end.

hmm, downloaded & installed, got an roor message about port 80 being used. EasyPHP is stopped; on left click, the following are disabled:
    Administration
    Local Web
    Restart
    Pending
This is even when I stopped MSSQLServer
I think I am over my head..
    I think I need step-by-step instructions...

Don't know if you are running Skype, but I think that it may use post 80.

I could also be rambling complete rubbish, I'm known for it

It is skype or another service that is using Port 80.

I run skype and easyphp, and my workaround is an order thing.

Fully, exit skype(or the other service using P80), start easyphp, restart skype.

This works for skype, if you have another service it may or may not like sharing Port 80

My computer is a laptop too and I am using windows media center. I am running my Zencart in localhost and with ssl for testing purposes. I am using XAMPP, which has PHP 5.2.0, Mysql, Apache, open ssl and few other things. After a very useful and effective help from this forum, I installed a bug fix for PHP, and everything is running fine. You can also use WAMP. The good thing about these two are that everything install for you and with just a little tweaking, no problems will arise.

[FONT=Arial]Well I got the new version 1,3,7 running on my laptop. Port 80 was used by ""inetinfo.exe. When I stopped Admin IIS , I was O.K. It just that I cannot run FrontPage at the same time - inconvenience. I recall that I was able to use port 8080 in the past as well, I just don't remember how to set it up anymore...
I still cannot send the order with SMTP set-up, it just gives me a blank page and I don't receive any emails from it. Also "Tell a Friend" does not work for me. It also has a looong notification/explanation that runs under the right hand box. It does not have a "submit" only "back" button.

And I would call this a blessing!!! If you are going to use Zen Cart and/or other scripts much...wean youself away from Front Page. It generates bloated code and MS has dropped it as there are many security issues with a FP site.

I know that it may seem like a comfortable old friend that you do not want to scrap....

Get a good straight text code editor, one that has color coding and will inform you of incorrect code by color. Or notepad will suffice in a pinch. These straight text editors do not add any additional and unwanted stuff to your edits.

email error Re: New Install on Widnows XP Pro Media Center

MS dropping support is the reason I am looking for a different shopping cart; I donwloaded PHP Designer 2007, that will do it for me with Zen Cart.. Would you know how to point Apache to port 8080?? I hope that would help me fix the SMTP email difficulties....

XP Pro comes with Windows IIS (Windows Internet Information Server) pre-installed, which is why Port 80 is in use if you also install an Apache based server. You can reset the Apache server to listen to Port 8080 if you edit the Apache httpd.conf file, shut down the Apache server and then restart it.

You don't have that problem with XP Home, because it doesn't come with IIS.

Most offline servers (Intranet) do not come with mail servers, so you need to install something like Post Cast Server to provide that function. Mail normally uses Port 25, and smtp mail has nothing to do with the web server itself.

    Vger
