I got the SMTP working on my laptop O.K. and I will follow your suggestion on setting Apache on 8080.
Now I have a newbie question.. Where should (on my laptop) the Zen Cart files be installed?? When I click Local Web on my EasyPHP it goes to 127.0.0.1 and does not show any web. I created new database with a prefix of Zen1_ and gave my store name ZenCart1. So giving http://127.0.0.1/ZenCart1 will load it in my browser. Where do I find files for ZenCart1 so I can change some of the original text on pages that came with the install, without messing up the original files I downloaded??

Happy new year Sunabac

You put your downloaded and unzipped zen cart folder in C:\Program Files\EasyPHP1-8\www and can change things from there. If you leave the file name zen Cart you will see it as that when you go to local web, what I do is copy and paste two versions and rename one as new shop and the original I leave as zen cart to use as a back up.
Now when you go to local web you have two folders named for example zen cart and new shop which when you click on they open up like a live shop. You need a data base for each shop, I have never tried to use the same one but it might work.
Also if you go to http://127.0.0.1/ZenCart/install it will take you to the zen cart install, then once installed http://127.0.0.1/ZenCart will open the shop.

HAVE FUN ANY ENJOY IT
All the best for 2007

Search for a file called Hosts or hosts on your computer. It will be a hidden file with no file extension. You may need to edit that to allow Apache to run at the same time as IIS is installed.

For future reference the only difference between XP Pro and XP Home is that XP Pro comes with Windows IIS pre-installed. So here are two good reasons to buy XP Home:

1. It's cheaper
2. It doesn't come with IIS pre-installed.

Well I need IIS for FrontPage.. so I just keep switching servers...
BTW I unistalled EasyPHP, Zencart 12292006 and installed XAMPP and the ZenCart 1.3.7 12302006 - all works fine now (still switching servers)

I don't know why you think you need IIS for FrontPage - the one is a Web Server and the other is a rather shoddy programme for writing html pages full of garbage code.

Other than the fact that they are both made by the same company they have no connection to one another.

Because I cannot run/develop database based web sites created with FrontPage without a server...

I was making the point that you don't need FrontPage to create dynamic php based websites. In fact it is better if you do not use FrontPage at all - it writes garbage html code.
