Unable to get the default index.php main page

I recently upgraded Zen Cart for a customer and everything seems to be alright data wise, but I do not get the default index.php that you get when you first install Zen Cart. Instead, I get a product listing of one item that comes up on the main page instead. I want the default page so that I can customize it, but after searching the forums and FAQs, and going through all of the configuration, I'm not sure how to do this.

Do you have your main page set to go to a specific Category? And does that Category only have 1 product in it?

There is a setting for Configuration ... Layout Settings ...

Skip 1-prod Categories
Skip single-product categories
If this option is set to True, then if the customer clicks on a link to a category which only contains a single item, then Zen Cart will take them directly to that product-page, rather than present them with another link to click in order to see the product.
Default: True

I finally figured it out. One of my products was in the top directory, and once I made a category for it, it finally put up the Newest Products on the main page like I wanted. Thanks for your help though.

Aha! a clue ...

Don't do that ... it will break the flow of how the cats and products work ...
