So I spent 3 hours trying to fix this, then posted the question here, then thought to use the search button...

Actually, the CORRECT answer is to follow the documented upgrade instructions in the /docs folder (or in the SQL file itself) .... which instructs you to run the zc_install/index.php program via your browser in order to do the database upgrade.
The upgrader in the zc_install program will handle those exceptions automatically for you.

Not sure if it's a problem at my end but that's what I did, it was when I was hitting the "upgrade database" button in zc_install that it gave me the error.
I still had my main database live and was working on a test install. Whenever I backed up my live database (using my hosts control panel) and then imported it to my test one, it gave that error when I used zc_install.
In the end I exported the database in phpmyadmin, removed a couple of lines with the live database name in them and imported to my test database, Worked fine then.
