help question For Our UK Zenners ??

I am a member of the W3G group and we are currently in a heated discussion of how long and difficult it will be to implement the new laws on UK websites.

For those who don't know of the law I am speaking of please see here :
    http://out-law.com/page-7594

I have a few UK clients and I will probably be hired to correct this issue on some sites. Of course with Zen it is very easy for me to add the required information to the footer of every page. BUT - it appears that I will also need to edit the email templates footers as well- can someone please clarify this for me. Also, what about regular "html" or other non zen pages - am I supposed to have this footer on EVERY SINGLE page ??

Thanks for any light that you can shed on this!

    Hi.

It is my understanding, based on the work we have had to undertake on our corporate website (the full time job I do outside of Zen Cart) that for an actual website (as opposed to emails)

You only have to add the required information to the Normal page that you use to provide contact information. (of course if you do not have that page then you need to create a page). That page needs to be linked from every page. That could be done from a side box or in the page footer.

It is also my understanding that this is not just a UK thing but is part of an EC directive, so affects other countries as well.

The information required generally only affects those companies that have Limited Liability status (or are Publically Listed).

    The information required is your
    UK Companies House registration number
    Registered address of the company
Yout VAT Number (even if you are not required to charge VAT on your sales)

    DISCLAIMER.

I am not a lawyer. If you are in any doubt as to your legal responsibilities then you should seek advice from some one qualified to give that advice.

    BTW

Just wanted to say how crap the UK Governments is at liasing with those using the Internet in any shape or form.

Amazing that we had to find this out from a post on The Register only 2 weeks before the information became legally required and a FINE would be payable for non-compliance.

Thats joined up government for you

    Bah Humbug :)

Thank You Wilt - for your reply - I agree I am in no shape to quote law either. Given that I am in the U.S. of course that gives me even less of an authority. I will leave it in the hands of the shop owners, whom I am sure will be more aware of what the requirements are for their individual situations ;)

If it's any help to anyone... I've spent the morning finding out how to add our VAT reg number to invoices etc, to not find anything. Decided on a simple solution: added it to admin | configuration | my store | store address and phone

Now my VAT number displays nicely on all invoices etc, which was all that was needed. I suppose Co number etc can be added also in this way.

    Good thinking Lina!
Please do not PM for support issues: a private solution doesn't benefit the community.

Be careful with unsolicited advice via email or PM - Make sure the person you are talking to is a reliable source.
