If you are speaking of multiple images per product there is info in the help files regarding this - no mod is needed - see here :

Hi,
Use _ for the additional images. Just using the first few characteras didn't work on one of my installations (as in the Fred example in the tutorial).
Example:
basename.jpg
basename_something1.jpg
basename_something2.jpg
etc.

Hi,
What happens if you are adding new products to the system and you inadvertently add products with similar product image names, will this cause the adverse affect of adding those other product images as additional images? This may be happening on my site for the first product that was listed.
thanks,
-justin
(I'm guessing yes, if you upload images with similar starting letters that this will happen, additional images can be turned off by Catalog->Product Types->Edit Layout->Show Product Additional Images)
Sorry if this is a dense question but could I use this method to show a different image on the Product Listing Page than on the Product Info page? I ask because some of my product images are animated which is fine when you're looking at a specific products. But on the listing page when there are 7 animations all running at the same time it can look kinda crazy. So I'd love to be able to show static images on the listing pages.
The main product images will only interfere with each other if they are *identical*.
Additional images are formed from the main image name plus characters... so main image fred.jpg and main image frederick.jpg can be different, but the system may see frederick as an additional image for fred as well.
Ennyaa,
You can use this trick if you employ the native Zen Cart 3 image system
the small main image is uploaded when you set up the product.
Now you can FTP a medium and large image to /images/medium and /images/large
these have a suffix of image_MED.jpg and image_LRG.jpg
Now these med and large images are separate files in separate locations. Zen Cart will automatically use them and they do not necessarily have to be just larger representations of the sam image....they can be different images all together.
For Zen Cart to automatically use them, they do have to have the same name with the _MED & _LRG suffixes
Zen-Venom Get Bitten
the system uses the "small" (name.jpg) image for the product listing pages, and the "medium" (name_MED.jpg) image for the product info page.
Load a static image for small and the animated one for medium and you should be ok.
Review the image directory setup for the correct location for each type of file.
See if this thread helps with the examples of the cat images ...
