I am trying to get rid of the image that is showing at the bottom of all pages. In fact my no-picture image is showing and do not know where to switch that off.

We can't tell anything, except that the broken image is supposed to happen at the top of your footer, without actually seeing your source code (not just "view source.")
Look in your template's tpl_footer.php or related files to find what image is supposed to be called. Then find out why it is not being found.
I believe that is a defect in the template you started with. There should be some posts related to the extra image in the Purpleshades template threads.
Please do not PM for support issues: a private solution doesn't benefit the community.
Be careful with unsolicited advice via email or PM - Make sure the person you are talking to is a reliable source.
thanks you all. I have sorted it out. It has to do with the file tpl_footer.php.
