    Default Admin Search Differs From Product Search

    Hi All,

    Currently there are 17 products with the words 'Kama Sutra' in the product name stored in the database. When a user searches for the term 'Kama Sutra' in the online store the search engine finds & lists all 17 products.

    However, when using the search feature in Admin > Categories/Products only four products are displayed when the term 'Kama Sutra' is entered. Can anyone explain the difference in the way each engine is searching the site?

    Hi DiZZ what version of zencart are you using?

    I have resently updated to 1.3.6 and noticed that some of my products that were searchable using admin are no longer available that is searching by product name. However if i check the categories i see the products i am searching for. Also searching on the website I can see the products i am looking for.

    The search facility in admin is very handy and I would like to get this working.

    Sorry DiZZ I don't have a solution however i can confirm that this is a problem that i am getting as well and would like to troubleshoot this as well but I`m not sure were to start.

    Check in phpMyAdmin and look at your products table ... do you have master_categories_id values? These should match your Categories ...

    If not, are you importing products?

    Do you use Linked Products?

    Hi Guys,

    Thanks for getting back to me on this. To answer your questions:

    1. I am running version 1.36 of ZC (I know there is a newer version!!)

    2. There are no master_categories_id set. The values for all 291 products are 0. Should I update the table to match this column to the products_id column? What is the difference between the two ids?

    3. The entire product listing was imported - only about 5% of the products were entered using the admin area.

    4. I am not sure what you mean by linked products or how I would check to find out...

    A Linked Product is a Product in 2 or more Categories ...

    If you are not using Linked Products the quick fix is to:

    1 Backup your database

    2 Make sure you backed up your database

    3 Go to Tools ... Store Manager ...

    Run the:
    Reset ALL Products Master Categories ID
    to be used for Linked Products and Pricing:
    4 In Tools ... Store Manager ...

    Next run the:
    Update ALL Products Price Sorter
    to be able to sort by displayed prices: Update
    This will fix both the missing master_categories_id by assigning the first match in the products_to_categories table and then fix the products_price_sorter for sorting on the Catalog by price ...

    Perfect solution - this corrected the issue. Not sure if its's worthy of a sticky, but definitely a good bit!
