Image in Categories Sidebox Content

Hi, I am wanting to add a pic of a product in the categories sidebox content (not a background image). Is it the tpl_categories box that I need to edit? And if anyone could assist as to where I should put <img src="images/docpic.gif">

I have tried a few times and I can't get it to work

My biggest problem is that I made so many changes and turned things off etc in the beginning when I was formatting the look of the store, that now I am totally confused
