Blank Phone Number

When I was about to ship an order, I noticed something was missing on the order itself. The customer's telephone number. I have required this on my signup form, so I went and tested to see if it could be submitted blank - gave me a javascript pop up message stating it needs to be 10 characters.

I put in 10 spaces and pressed submit again - the account was created successfully. If I put in "abcdefghij" for the 10 characters, it will also let me get through.

Shouldn't this field be checked to see if it contains 10 numbers, instead of 10 characters?

Running 1.3.7 here, no modifications to create_account pages whatsoever

That field is operating as it was designed. So this isn't a bug.

And what happens if your customer doesn't have a phone number?

So even if its required, a customer should be able to bypass it? That doesn't make sense.

Even if it verified there were 10 digits in the fields you can still get around that by giving a phony number...

Kim's right that folks can put any digits in the field and be accepted.

I would agree that trimming the results might be prudent so as to prevent the use of spaces from blatantly providing bogus data.

But doing any further field validation becomes quite complex when you consider that Zen Cart isn't only designed for US-based telephone numbers / address format / language / currency, etc. There are many different formats for telephone numbers internationally, so enforcing a minimum number of characters is about the best that can be done unless you want to get incredibly creative.
