Can Accounts have same email address?

Can 2 Accounts have same email address, is there somewhere to switch on/off Allow Duplicate Email addresses?

No and no.

The customer's ID is their email address.

If they've forgotten their password, they can request a new one via the Forgotten Password link on the login page.

A husband and wife want to create an account each to buy each other products, but they share the same email address?

That can be a problem ... or one can go get a hotmail account so that they cannot see one another's orders ...

Would swapping the first name and email address in the english.php, the positions in the create account files and the lengths in the db work, or could that cause a problem with other pages?

The logic is based on login by email address and password ...

While you could have your code customized to use a different method ... this has been tested to be tried and true for years ... if you change that and do not test the results correctly you will have problems ...

Uniqueness of a name vs email address means ... the 5 Joe Smith's cannot have joesmith as their login ... now you have 5 customers and their wives ticked off ... having to use joesmith2 joesmith4567 etc.

What's your email? Not a lot of answers to that one ...
