Hi,
A newbie needs some help here. I would like to know which file I should override for customizing main content panel? The result I would like to accomplish is removing "Monthly special" completely and moving "Featured products" to above the "New products".

None.
You can do this by editing switches in the Admin section.
Admin > Configuration > Index Listing
The value you give each box here will determine the order in which it will appear on each of a number of different pages and giving any of them a value of 0 will suppress them completely.Kuroi Web Design and Development | Twitter
