    help question cPanel/ZC_Install question

Im getting ready to migrate my site from a local in house server (Windows/IIS6) to a hosting company running Linux/cPanel. This question is probably a very novice one but here goes. I have uploaded a clean version of v1.3.6 to my hositng company and am unable to get in to the zc_install folder. I can get to a test.php file I placed at the root though.
I get a "500 The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request" whenever I try and access any file in the zc_install directory even after setting permissions to 777 on the folder and all files inside.
Now, I have not repointed my domain name name servers to said hosting company yet and Im guessing this may be the issue but I do have a static IP. I am trying to do an install by going to the IP address/zc_install/index.php so that I can learn cPanel a bit before I actually migrate my site.

Am I dead int he water unless I migrate my Name servers to the hosting company or could there possibly be something else happening here Im not aware of???

    Thanks

I share a similar problem. My host has an auto-installer for zen-cart and I have not pointed the DNS to the new site yet, so the cart is installed but I cannot access anything to configure it. I'm talking to the host, but if anyone has anysuggestions beside redirecting the DNS, I'm all ears.

The 'http' path/url used by ZC is hardcoded in both your config files.
Change from using a Domain name to your IP address and you should be fine.

Well I was unable to figure out "why" but here is what I did to get around the issue. My host had a scripted install of 1.3.5 so I installed it in the /store/ folder and tested it.
I then moved each folder into the root and edited the cofig files to match the new directory locations and its working. Now the migration from my server to the hosting company should be a bit smoother.

Still bugging me as to why a clean upload of zen to the site gave be issues only in the /zc_install folder though.

Well, I followed your advice about editing the cofigure.php files and that got a nice result as far as the store itself - looks good, but needs changing to suit our needs. I got to the admin login page with no trouble either, but can't login. created a new user in the MySQL part of my host login, and that won't let me login to admin either. In both cases I get a message saying your login ID or password are not recognized.
I have read all these posts about admin login failure and I'm totally confused. When I go the phpadminin my host cpanel I can see no where to edit anything that makes sense.
    Please help a novice!

If this is a fresh install the default admin password is admin. Once you log in you can change this in TOOLS>ADMIN SETTINGS.
Try looking through the /DOCS folder int eh zen cart file that you uploaded. All this information is in there as well.

actually you should have set your admin username and password during install,
if you are using the fantastico install, your actually better off deleting that and uploading fresh files and installing it manually, less screwups ( fantasticos part )

Thanks to you both for your response. I tried Admin/admin for the login, it doesn't work either. I think Merlin has the best idea delete the old intallation and reinstall the way it was meant to be instaleed - not through fantastico. The host is trying to get me to point the dns to the new location and make it easier, maybe I'll do that too.
I'll let you know how I make out.
    Thanks again,
    Keith

Merlinpa and CBO - I did a complete reinstall and everything is functioning perfectly. Now the work starts.
    Thanks for all your help.
