Default Error: two shops sharing the shopping cart

Weird problem: I'm trying to set up a 2nd store on the same server. They are using different databases, and yet when I add a product to my cart in one shop (as a guest), that product appears in the cart of the other shop. Even when it's not a product that exists in the 2nd shop.

I assumed this info was saved to the database, so I'm surprised. Additionally, I just checked to make sure the caches are set to the correct (and different directories) and it looks okay in the configure files. I'm guessing I overlooked something stupid -- anybody know what's going on?

Check the configs of the second shop and make sure you are talking to the correct DB.

No, the databases for each shop is set correctly to separate databases. I may have created the 2nd one by using COPY in phpmyadmin, and I assume they don't mirror each other using that method.

I just noticed that 'STORE_SESSIONS' is set to 'file' for both shops, but would that cause this? Else, what else should I look into? Where is the guest cart actually written? To the db? Or to the cache?

Again, both caches directories are separate as well.

I figured it out: in the admin, configuration menu, sessions: I forgot to change the sessions directory to the correct folder.

Thanks for the update that your sessions directory was conflicting with the two stores and causing your problem ...

Hi magicpants, glad you are all go. Are you using the same admin for both shops? Don't have to have this for mine but helpful.

Can you and others please direct me to exactly what steps you did.

    Assume you:

    • Duplicate shop folder and rename.
    • Duplicate DB and rename + import | or create new DB
    • Change URLs +amin user in Includes/configure.php Amin/Includes/configue.php
    • Alt folder name in Admin/Configuration menu/Sessions
    • Have a coffee
    • Change templates as see fit for alt URL
    • ummmm

    Hi Hippy,

No, I'm using different admins for each shop. I wouldn't have a clue if it's possible or recommendable to share one admin for two shops. My guess would be it could cause some weird problems here and there.

You've got it concerning the steps to do this. I had to go through and adjust a few links on my site, because I had a few hard-coded paths in there (probably not the best way to do it, but my skillz lack). The only other thing is I'd suggest tea over coffee, but that could just be a personal choice.

    Best of luck! MP

    Thanks MP

I have the same issue with my skills.....or lack of. If you were at all interested there is a thread dealing with the 1 Admin wonder. Seems like a Module is in the pipeline coded by Absolute, though still no time as to when it's to be finished. Worth a read...
