Links Manager Question

Is it posible to NOT have categories with this module?

I'm working on a way to have both options available.

Option one would be "view by category" (current default)

Option two would be "view Links" (just a page with the links list)

But getting the necessary pages to work together (or separately) turned out to be a bit more complicated than I thought.
