Due to an automatic use of images based upon a base name I would try remnaming your abcd_1.jpg to abcd1.jpg, abcd1_MED.jpg and abcd1_LRG.jpg
reupload theough the product entry the small and FTP the others....try this and see if this helps. Also use unique base names between products

Folders exist by default in
/images
/images/medium
/images/large
