Discountable items

How do I distinguish between discountable and non-discountable items/products.? We sell book and maps that have discounts available with a coupon code. We also sell memberships and take donations which are not generally discountable but occasionally there are membership specials.

If you're using specials, salemaker or coupons, the ability to include or exclude is built in.

I am new to Zen and I don't see anything under either the coupon or the product having to do with whether discounts apply or not. What else do I have to do?

Perhaps one needs to define attributes but if so how are they tied to whether the discount is applied or not?

In admin, go to Gift Certificates/Coupons->Coupon Admin, and select your coupon.
Look at the buttons on the right hand side, and press the one that says "Restrictions."

ok. Now with Salemaker and Specials, you pick your restrictions (or more accurately, your discounted items) up front, so it's pretty straightforward.
