Default Error 403: can't run install

I have uploaded all of the files to my webserver using ftp. My webserver is a windows server www.activehost.com. I uploaded the files to www.tehome.net/zen-cart/catalog/, I then changed the permissions in the required documents to readwriteexecute like it says in the installation tutorial. I also changed the dist-configure.php files to configure.php and set the permissions. Now, when I try to access the zc_install, it says Http Error 403: not authorized to view page. Help!

What was the problem that you discovered to fix this?

Kitty over at the switchboards forums pointed out to me that windows server didn't like the url to end with: catalog/ but rather to set up the url to end as: catalog/index.php

That sounds like a server that is not setup correctly ...

You will have a world of problems if it cannot understand what php files are and to load them correctly ...

NOTE: your secure pages are not setup correctly either from the looks of things ...

Those are some interesting steps that, one, should be done AFTER running zc_install AND...
You should not be changing dist-configure files as the install will look for them and change them according to your input during installation.
Backwards going were you think I.
    A little help with colors.

    psst ...

er ... umm ... if you rename dist-configure.php to configure.php and set to 777 before an install ... this is the same as load an empty configure.php to the site and set to 777 ...

Okay, I'm really confused, I just followed the steps outlined in the Install located at: https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/i...hp?article=107. It says to rename dist-config before running install

You can create the configure.php before running the install by EITHER:

    1 rename the 2 dist-configure.php to configure.php

    2 copy 2 empty files called configure.php

    These belong in:
    /includes
    /admin/includes

Then set to 777 before running the installer ...
